Moving Over to WordPress June 17, 2008

Moving is never easy.  It takes planning, time, energy and usually a few things you can’t seem to remember but will eventually make some part of the event stressful.  Moving a blog is no different.  I still don’t have all the boxes unpacked, but the bed is made and the coffee maker is on the counter so I can function.  The next few weeks it will look better and better so be sure to visit again and try not to be too critical.

Why move?  I wanted to use the tools I use for my clients as a real-life demonstration of their functionality.  I use WordPress for client blogs.  The number of options it presents me to make you look great are amazing.  I will be playing with a variety of functions on this blog while still offering up weekly tips.

This week’s marketing tip is about what else – blogs.  I get asked often about blogging and what it can do for my client’s businesses.  There is no one answer to that excellent question as internet media is still very new from a true social consumerism perspective.  For your interests as a business I’d say it can elevate your authority in your industry.  The internet and television provide a unique place for people to become instant experts.  The average consumer gifts people using these mediums as authorities – whether deserving or not.  I encourage clients who have knowledge to share about their industry to share it freely.  “But wait, Paula.  If I tell them everything I know they won’t buy from me.”  Another myth that needs to be dispelled.  By sharing knowledge on a topic you are passionate about you are positioning yourself as the “respected expert”.  That converts to subscribers and people who have raised their hands waving money and want you to sell them something!  Now, this doesn’t happen overnight.  A few other elements should be in place to capture their information, but it can and does happen often.  Social networking has gone beyond mere personas on Facebook and 2nd Life.  People can find information on just about anything that interests them and those who find you want to know more.

If you want to blog but are limited by time or writing ability, get in touch.  I ghost blog for numerous industries and can help bring interested people to you.
