Cool blog with lots of interesting ideas. I see now why marketing folks are generally more creative (better dressed?) than their peers in sales:

Good luck with the business.

Good stuff to think about, Paula. A USP is also a promise. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself what it is you promise to customers beyond the product or service you happen to sell. My rule of thumb is that your USP is always about your promise, and never about your product.

Good advice, Paula. While clients aren't always forthcoming with the real reasons they buy, you can glean a lot of information through interaction and conversation.

It's also important to understand that a sales rep or business owner is uniquely unqualified to know why a customer should buy. The culprit is the curse of knowledge. You know too much to be able to look at the situation simplistically, the way a client does.

Nice article, thanks - It will be interesting to see if Twitter can sustain the huge interest it currently has, or whether in a few years time it will be seen as "so 2009"!? - I for one would not like to make a prediction.

Paula,

I agree with "celebrating" your marketing failures. Although it would be nice to have some of the money back that I spent on such ventures, I'm glad I did it for two reasons.

1. It helped me realize which micro segments of my market I should concentrate on.
2. I didn't waste any energy on "well, maybe I should have done this....." I did it...I didn't work. End of story!

Thanks for your blog and webinars. I enjoy them immensely!

Great Advice. I had not considered how many types of media could be used.
I have just been advertising online, but I think sponsoring an event would be great exposure, and a church newsletter may have my target customers.
Thanks, Leah
